Creative Team Announced for ‘The Waterfall’ at New Harmony

We’re pleased to share the artists leading the next phase of The Waterfall by Phanésia Pharel, which will be presented this month as part of the 2025 Writers’ Residency at the New Harmony Project.

Selected as one of only two Productions in Residence from a record-breaking 530+ submissions, The Waterfall will receive a public reading on May 31, 2025, at Thrall’s Opera House in New Harmony, Indiana.

Meet the Creative Team

Directed by Obie winner Taylor Reynolds (Man Cave, Tambo & Bones), the residency production will feature celebrated performers Malika Samuel and Patrice Johnson Chevannes, with dramaturgy by Kristin Leahey. A public reading will take place on May 31, 2025, at Thrall’s Opera House in New Harmony, Indiana.

About the Play

Commissioned by Thrown Stone through the 2022 068 Magazine Playwriting Fellowship, The Waterfall explores the complicated bond between a Haitian American mother and daughter. It has since been developed in partnership with The Old Globe and WP Theater, and was recognized with the Kennedy Center’s Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award.

This Production in Residence is a vital step in the play’s development as part of a supportive, artist-centered process.
