Maya Carter

Maya is an interdisciplinary performer, artist-educator, and theater-maker living on the unceded ancestral land of the Lenni Lenape and Canarsie People (BK, NY). Performance credits include: Period Sisters at HERE Arts Center (Ellie Hart), Like Real People Do: LDRD with Linked Dance Theatre (Cornelia Prue), and Grounded at Irondale (The Pilot). As an artist educator, Maya seeks to dismantle oppressive power structures + amplify marginalized voices by decolonizing access to artistic practice. Maya also facilitates the development of new contemporary plays and ensemble-devised work in various capacities, including: Festival Curation, Dramaturgy, Movement Direction/Choreography, and Devising/Writing. Developmental projects include: Elle S’envoie with Linked Dance Theatre, and The Seven Ravens Project with Soledad Ensemble + The New Victory LabWorks program. Maya sends big love to Thrown Stone, Daniela Sikora, and the entire company + creative team of The Suburbs for a beautiful Ridgefield debut; and is eternally grateful for family — both blood and bond.
