Richard Harrison has been building sets with Thrown Stone since 2019 as Technical Director. He has been Production Manager too and Designed sets for the roving productions in 2021’s Suburbs. Previously, Richard designed, engineered and created scenery for 25 years in New York and nationally with his company Capital Scenic, Inc.
Richard started in New York at the Metropolitan Opera technical department and was for years, Design Associate and Research assistant to children’s author Maurice Sendak. He has since designed Off-Broadway and as co-owner of Capital Scenic, Inc., he provided the original set for Inside the Actor’s Studio as well as Theatre and Industrial clients like The Roundabout Theatre (Cabaret 1998, 2014), Theatre for a New Audience (King Lear, 2013 and Much Ado About Nothing, 2012), Paul Taylor Dance, Mark Morris Dance, ABT, Mint Theater, The Blue Man Group, Billy Joel’s VH-1 Storyteller, Bravo Network, The Bellagio, Criss Angel, Heineken, Dunkin’ Donuts, Citicorp, IBM, and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. In 2000 and 2006 his tradeshow booth designs for Sid Wainer & Son and Baldor Specialty Foods respectively, won the Boston NASFT Best in Show, Booth Design awards.
Recently, he designed and built Sweat and The Runner Stumbles for the City University of New York and teaches Visual Arts and Design at Kenneth B. Clark Academy in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He holds degrees in Set and Costume Design, Fine Art and a Masters in Art Education.
