“The Good District” Postponed to Fall 2026

South Norwalk, CT – June 13, 2025 — Thrown Stone Theatre Company has made the difficult but prudent decision to postpone the world premiere of The Good District by Tony Meneses to Fall 2026.

While the company is deeply grateful for the steadfast support of its public and institutional partners, several key funding opportunities have paused or vanished entirely over the past year due to ongoing economic uncertainty. Thrown Stone is choosing to move forward with care to ensure that The Good District receives the premiere it deserves.

“Postponing The Good District was not a decision we made lightly,” said Jonathan Winn, Co-Artistic Director and Executive Director of Thrown Stone. “But in a year marked by widespread funding declines, it was the responsible path forward. We owe it to the play and our audience to premiere this work with the care and resources it deserves.”

The Good District examines questions of equity in our public schools. It asks who deserves a quality education, and what families are willing to risk to participate in a system where opportunity is often far from equal.

This fall, Thrown Stone will host a developmental workshop of The Good District, directed by Dexter Singleton, bookended by public readings designed to gather input from community members and stakeholders. The company will also use this time to raise funds, expand its audience, and build a broader coalition of support for this timely, resonant production.

Playwright Tony Meneses, a longtime Thrown Stone collaborator, was recently selected for the 2025 Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference — one of the country’s most prestigious new play development programs — underscoring the national recognition his work continues to receive.

Thrown Stone remains debt-free and committed to both artistic excellence and responsible financial stewardship. With the CT Short Play Fest taking place this August, and the off-Broadway world premiere of The Waterfall by Phanésia Pharel in January, the company looks forward to engaging audiences throughout the summer and returning to The Good District in the fall of 2026 with renewed momentum.
