Thursday, February 24 is Fairfield County’s Giving Day, and we are raising funds to support our inaugural 068 Magazine Playwriting Fellow, Phanésia Pharel. Ms. Pharel wrote the sensational new play, Should We Dance Instead?, for Thrown Stone’s 2021 season, The Suburbs.
Ms. Pharel’s six-month fellowship began February 1, and includes a stipend, developmental funds, and workshops in support of her new material. Phanésia was a finalist for The Lark’s Van Lier New Voices Fellowship when the company suddenly and tragically folded last fall. This program’s dissolution leaves some of the best and brightest new talents without crucial early-career support. Thrown Stone was fortunate to give Ms. Pharel her first professional production, and with major support from 068 Magazine, we have created our own fellowship for this gifted young playwright.

Thrown Stone board member Kolton Harris interviews Phanésia about her work and her fellowship in this short interview:
The 068 Magazine Playwriting Fellowship represents a significant expansion of Thrown Stone’s capacity, we continue to fundraise in support of this important new program. Urgently, we need to raise another $10,000 to fully fund the fellowship in its first year. Your gift will support our inaugural fellowship and help position Thrown Stone to offer this program on a perennial basis.
The future of theatre depends on the nurturing of young playwrights. At Thrown Stone, we believe it is our duty to carry the flame for these visionary artists. Will you help us support Phanésia on February 24?
